Nicole Beutler & Tomoko Mukaiyama
Try-Out-Performance

Inspired by the classical format of a "dance concert" - as popular at the beginning of the 20thcentury - concert pianist Tomoko Mukaiyama and choreographer Nicole Beutler dive deeply into the question: when music and dance are performed together, how do these worlds relate? The musician and the dancer (Mitchell Lee van Rooij) will, as masters in their disciplines, react to the developing relationship. Is it necessary that one or the other be in charge? Or is it possible to merge into one? The two makers question the roles of the two universes, traditionally linked, by identifying and articulating the automatic interactions that occur in order to liberate the necessary order of events and discover a vast expanse of grey area/territories of interaction. In the evolving dialogue, music and dance will transcend their individual strengths and differences to create a delighted trance.

Nicole Beutler will be a guest at Frankfurt LAB from 6 to 18 August, as part of the artist-in-residence programme of Tanzlabor_21.
